When you are aligning your teeth with aligners, there are things that can hinder your progress toward your perfect smile. One of those things is poor oral hygiene. In fact, poor oral hygiene can result in an affected orthodontic appliance as well as a vulnerable and damaged smile. This is why our dentist, Dr. Eric Goldberg, strongly encourages you to follow certain oral hygiene rules during the orthodontic treatment. To help you remember them, he is happy to list them here:

-Brush often: It’s important to brush after every time you eat. This is because if food particles and bacteria remain in your mouth when you put the aligner back over your teeth, then they can be trapped in the aligner and promote cavities.

-Floss regularly: It’s best to floss at least once a day. If you can floss more, do it. Flossing helps you remove plaque and bacteria from your teeth, which can help you prevent dental issues.

-Rinse daily: Rinsing can eliminate the bacteria in your mouth, complete the smile-cleaning job and more, so don’t forget to rinse with mouthwash daily.

-Clean your aligners: Rinse your aligners every time you take them out of the mouth. You can just rinse them under water. At night, brush the aligners with a soft-bristled toothbrush or with the aligner-cleaning tools provided in your orthodontic kit.
